The last time I saw this kid was in the NICU. He has come a long way in the last 5 months, from the tiniest 2 lb 5 oz little dragon to the chubby smiley Matt Hasselbeck lookalike he was today. What a joy.

A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In the room of 200, he asked. “Who would like this $20 bill?”

Hands started going up. He said, “I am going to give this $20 to one of you - but first, let me do this.”

He proceeded to crumple the 20 dollar note up. He then asked. “Who still wants it?” Still the hands were up in the air.

“Well,” he replied, “what if I do this?” He dropped it on the
ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. “Now, who still wants it?”

Still the hands went into the air.

“My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No
matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.

my life, in case you are interested. :)

today-wednesday: hours of medicine packing (102 boxes! 40-45 lbs each!), work, family functions, church, rehearsing for a presentation in vietnamese, caregiving, packing, hemming scrubs, eating yogurt to beef up my microbiota against food illness

thursday morning: lug two check-ins (each full of 44 lbs worth of vitamins) and a carry-on (clothes and bare essentials) to sea-tac. bye bye for two weeks

the next two weeks: translating for and serving over 2000 patients. putting our intense summer training into practice. medication dispensing/individual packaging every night in our hotel into the wee hours. bringing loads of beanie babies to orphanages. playing with many, many children. 11 hour layover in seoul on the way back, during which we will do a lot of exploring

things to expect in central vietnam:

upper 90’s, humidity, monsoon season
holes to pee in, toilet paper that feels like sandpaper
a very distinct and unique regional dialect that most of us will struggle to understand
terribly spicy cuisine
visit to the forbidden palace on our only day off
possible visit to song huong (perfume river)
pretty landscapes and very rural villages
large mosquitoes

excited, anxious, and almost there!

Baffled because they don’t smell like cookies…no aroma or smell (or stench) at all. I think they taste and look normal though. Living the domestic life.
